Cal Poly Swim & Dive Heads to MPSF Championships This Week

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — With the regular season complete, the Cal Poly men's and women's swimming and diving teams will compete this week at the 12th annual Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in Los Angeles.
For the first time in two years, the championships will be returning to East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park for the swimming competition and Marguerite Aquatics Center in Mission Viejo for the diving competition. Cal Poly will be joined by BYU, Hawai'i, Pacific, UC San Diego, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, and CSU Bakersfield.
The swimming will take place Wednesday, Feb. 16 through Saturday, Feb. 19. The diving will begin Thursday, Feb. 17 and go through Saturday. Wednesday's swimming will start at 6 p.m. with the team relays. Thursday and Friday the finals will also begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, the 1650 finals will start at 3 p.m. with the rest of the finals starting at 6:30

Sophomore men's swimmer Kieran McNulty holds the second-fastest times in the MPSF this year in both the 1,000 free (9:14.81) and the 1650 free (15:11.99). At last year's championships, McNulty won the 500 free and 1650 free to become the first Mustang since 2013 to win two individual conference titles.
Senior men's swimmer Gennady Sytnik ranks third this season in the MPSF in the 100 back (47.82). Last year, Sytnik broke the school record in the 100 back during the MPSF Championships in which he placed second.
Junior women's swimmer Samantha Rankin holds the second-fastest time in the MPSF this season in the 400 IM (4:22.42). Junior Kaia Anderson ranks fifth in the MPSF this season in both the 1,000 free (10:25.48) and 1650 free (17:16.23).
In diving, junior Max Powell ranks fourth this season in the conference in the one-meter (312.21) and seventh in the three-meter (288.98). Junior Jacqueline Samaniego and senior Joelle Weltner hold the seventh and eighth best dives in the 1one-meter with scores of 273.60 and 273.45.
Cal Poly will be seeking its first MPSF team title on both the men's and women's sides. Hawai'i's women's team has won the last five MPSF Championships. BYU is the defending champion on the men's side.
