Cal Poly Wrestlers Compete in Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Cal Poly's final three wrestlers still alive in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational after the first two rounds of competition in the championship bracket and two rounds of consolation matches were eliminated Friday night.
Luka Wick was the last Mustang to be eliminated as he won his first match Friday night, a 5-1 decision overGage McClenahan of Cornell, before falling to Cael Swensen of South Dakota State 6-4 in the fourth round of consolation matches. Wick finishes with a 3-2 record in the tournament.
Wick earned an 11-1 major decision against Michael Kilic of Arizona State in the opening round of the 157-pound bracket before he was edged by Tommy Asley of Appalachian State 3-1. In the wrestlebacks, Wick pinned Navy's George Ruiz in 1 minute, 13 seconds, ssetting up his match with McClenahan.
In the third round of consolation matches, Legend Lamer fell 8-0 to Bubba Wilson of Nebraska.
Lamer won by technical fall versus Kaden Hart of Nebraska-Kearney in his opening match at 165 before dropping a 6-1 decision to William Formato of Appalachian State. A 9-7 decision against Cameron Pine of Clarion advanced Lamer into the next round against Wilson.
At 285, Trevor Tinker dropped a 13-0 major decision to Lewis Fernandez of Cornell in the third round of consolation matches.
Earlier on Friday, Tinker dropped a 4-3 decision to Cale Davidson of Nebraska before bouncing back with two wins in the wrestlebacks -- 7-1 over Chris Island of California Baptist and 10-5 against Luke Niemeyer of Bucknell.
Lawrence Saenz at 141 pounds and Brawley Lamer at 184 were eliminated in the second round of wrestlebacks. Ethan Rotondo (133) and Jarad Priest (174) were eliminated with a pair of losses.
The quarterfinals also were contested Friday night, with the semifinals and more consolation matches Saturday morning. The championship and consolation finals on Saturday afternoon begin at 3 p.m. in Hall N4 of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
