Cal Poly Wrestlers Blank Lindenwood, Fall to No 9 Minnesota
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The 24th-ranked Cal Poly wrestling team split a pair of matches Sunday afternoon before 1,158 fans inside Mott Athletics Center, shutting out Lindenwood 50-0 and falling 22-12 to No. 9 Minnesota.
Coach Jon Sioredas' Mustangs won the final two bouts against the nationally ranked Gophers, including a fall in just 24 seconds by two-time NCAA All-American Bernie Truax against Michial Foy, ranked No. 20 at 197 pounds this week.
Truax scored a takedown less than 10 seconds into his match before recording the 11th quickest fall in Cal Poly dual meet history. Truax, who also romped to a 17-1 technical fall versus Lindenwood's Ryan Golnick, improved to 6-0 on the year.
Mustang heavyweight Trevor Tinker went overtime to beat Minnesota's 24th-ranked Garrett Joles 9-7, scoring a takedown 20 seconds into the sudden-victory period in the final match of the dual meet.

Cal Poly's only win in the first eight bouts against the Gophers was earned by 149-pounder Dom Demas with a 5-2 decision against Michael Blockus, who entered the bout with a perfect 8-0 record and No. 16 national ranking.
Demas (5-1), the transfer from Wisconsin and ranked No. 10 this week, clinched the bout with a takedown with five seconds remaining.
Minnesota notched one major decision and seven decisions en route to a 22-3 lead in the first eight bouts of the card.
Minnesota defeated Lindenwood 49-6 in the first of Sunday's three dual meets.
Cal Poly will compete in the Collegiate Wrestling Duals next Monday and Tuesday in New Orleans. The Mustangs face Lehigh and North Carolina State on Dec. 19, with the final opponent to be determined on Dec. 20.
