Blake Claims Top Honors at 157 Pounds in Roadrunner Open

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Elijah Blake claimed top honors at 157 pounds and four other Cal Poly wrestlers were placewinners at the Roadrunner Open on Sunday inside the Icardo Center.
Blake, a redshirt freshman from Del Oro High School, posted a 5-0 mark, reaching the final round with one fall, a major and two decisions before winning by medical forfeit over Andrew Clark of Rutgers.
Blake's fall was in the first period as he pinned Evan Kilgore of New Mexico Highlands in 39 seconds in the semifinals. His major was by a 12-4 count while his decisions included one in overtime.
Daniel Vizcarra finished tied for third place at 157 pounds while Cash Stewart at 165 and Nathan Glass at 285 both finished fourth. Jarad Priest placed tied for fifth at 174.
Vizcarra won five of six matches with two falls while Stewart reached the semifinals with three wins and finished with a 4-2 mark. Priest also was 5-1 in the tournament and Glass rebounded from a first-round loss (3-2 decision) with three wins in the wrestlebacks.
Cal Poly will compete in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 2-3.
