2022-23 CAL POLY WRESTLING SCHEDULE
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Cal Poly will take seven nationally ranked wrestlers into a home schedule in the 2022-23 season that features four opponents ranked in the Top 25 by InterMat.
Six home dual meets are on the docket, including dates with No. 6 Michigan, No. 7 Minnesota, No. 21 Stanford and No. 23 Oregon State. Cal Poly also will host Lindenwood and Little Rock.
"We are excited to host four Top 25 teams in Mott Athletics Center, two in the Top 10," said seventh-year Mustang head Jon Sioredas. "We also travel to No. 3 Arizona State and will face at least two other nationally ranked programs in New Orleans at the National Collegiate Duals."
Lindenwood, which became a member of the Ohio Valley Conference on July 1 after nine seasons at the NCAA Division II level and is located in St. Charles, Missouri, and Minnesota kick off the home slate for the Mustangs in a double-dual on Dec. 11.
Cal Poly hosts Michigan on Jan. 6 before hosting three Pac-12 duals versus Little Rock on Feb. 5, Stanford on Feb. 17 and Oregon State on Feb. 19.
The Mustangs also will contest five dual meets on the road, beginning with the season opener Nov. 5 at California Baptist.
Cal Poly also will visit Air Force on Jan. 13, Northern Colorado on Jan. 15, Arizona State on Jan. 21 and CSU Bakersfield on Feb. 3.
The Mustangs will compete in four tournaments during the regular season.
Cal Poly is entered in the Tiger Style Invitational at Kansas City on Nov. 12, the Roadrunner Open in Bakersfield on Nov. 20, the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 2-3 and the Collegiate Duals on Dec. 19-20 in New Orleans.
"Our strong dual meet schedule coupled with the Mizzou Tiger Style Invite and the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite ... we have assembled one of the strongest schedules in the country," said Sioredas.
"As our team has grown -- seven of our 10 starters currently nationally ranked -- we have scaled our competition schedule accordingly. These events will provide our team ample opportunity to continue to improve before the NCAA Championships."
Stanford will host the Pac-12 Championship on March 5, with the Bank of Oklahoma (BOK) Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, serving as the site of the 2023 NCAA Division I National Championship on March 16-18.
Cal Poly is ranked No. 26 in InterMat's tournament rankings and No. 28 in the dual meet rankings.
The list of Mustangs in InterMat's individual rankings is led by two-time NCAA All-American Bernie Truax, who is moving up to 197 pounds this season. Truax placed fourth at 174 pounds in 2021 and at 184 in 2022.
Dom Demas, the transfer from Oklahoma, is ranked No. 13 at 149 pounds while Adam Kemp drew a No. 20 ranking at 184. Other ranked Mustangs include No. 27 Legend Lamer at 165, No. 27 Luka Wick at 157, No. 31 Lawrence Saenz at 141 and No. 31 Antonio Lorenzo at 125.
