SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Senior forward Madison Demijohn has been named the Mechanics Bank Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week after helping Cal Poly women's soccer capture 4 points across a pair of pivotal Big West matches to jump into a tie for first place in the conference.
Demijohn scored 1:40 into Thursday's 1-1 home draw against Long Beach State. It was the second goal of her career. The Thousand Oaks, Calif., native buried her first career goal in a loss at Stanford earlier this season.
In Sunday's 2-0 victory over UC Irvine, the Oaks Christian High grad assisted on Camille Lafaix's game-winning goal in the 23rd minute. It was the second assist of her career and first this season.
The win over the Anteaters allowed the Mustangs to move into a tie for first place in The Big West standings with LBSU, who suffered its conference defeat Sunday at UC Santa Barbara. The result also allowed Cal Poly to clinch a spot in The Big West postseason.
Cal Poly (8-6-3, 5-1-3 BW) concludes regular season play 7 p.m. Thursday at UC San Diego. The Mustangs will be looking to lock up a first-round bye in The Big West Championships, which start this coming Sunday, and possibly the No. 1 overall seed.
