SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly cross country program travels to a pair of meets Saturday for their final competition before the Big West Championships on Oct. 29.
The Mustangs will split the squad this weekend, sending their top runners on the men's side to the XC23 Invitational in Earlysville, Va., while the rest of the team competes in the Bronco Invitational at Baylands Regional Park in Sunnyvale.
Cal Poly will encounter four ranked teams at Panorama Farms in Virginia — No. 7 Wake Forest, No. 18 Texas, No. 19 Virginia and No. 30 Charlotte. Last week, the Mustang men received votes in the USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll for the first time since 2013 after placing seventh in Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational.
Jake Ritter, Aidan McCarthy, Will Fallini-Haas, Anthony Guerra, Spencer Thurman, Erik Luu, Rory Smail, Godebo Chapman and John Bennett will all be in action for the Mustangs at Panorama Farms, the site of the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships. The men's 8K race at the XC23 Invitational starts at 7 a.m. PST Saturday.
The remaining men's runners and the full women's team will take part in the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara. The men's collegiate 8K begins at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, followed by the women's collegiate 6K at 9:30 a.m.
In the latest USTFCCCA West Region poll, the Cal Poly men were ranked No. 7, while the women currently sit at No. 14.
