SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly women's tennis head coach Kat Winterhalter and the Cal Poly Athletic Department have announced that Laura Bente, a grad transfer from the University of Memphis, has joined the Mustangs for the 2021-22 season.
"We're excited to have Laura join the Mustang family," Winterhalter said of adding Bente. "She has a wealth of experience playing at a high level and she will add depth to our program."
Bente was an AAC All-Conference selection in 2019 while with the Tigers. She ended her time at Memphis with a career singles record of 20-20 in dual matches and a doubles record of 8-13 in dual matches.
Bente, who grew up in Hannover, Germany and started playing tennis when she was six years old, was ranked as a U18 top-10 player in Germany prior to attending Memphis. She won a national title in 2017 in Germany and was a Le Gubertin Price honoree while in high school at the Carl-Friedrich Gauss School in Germany for athletic and academic excellence.
Bente, who will be working on earning her Master's Degree in Public Policy at Cal Poly, said she chose the Mustangs because of the academics as well as Coach Winterhalter and the rest of the team.
