SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly has added to its incoming recruiting class for Mustang Women's Basketball, announcing on Friday that Sarah Dumitrescu will join the program via Ole Miss.
A 6-foot-1 forward/guard from Bucharest, Romania, Dumitrescu comes to San Luis Obispo with four years of eligibility remaining following a previous injury-redshirt year in 2019-20 with a hardship waiver from the SEC, prior to the 2020-21 season exemption.
"Sarah has great ability to score off the drive, hit the pull-up and can knock down the 3. She is a monster on the boards and brings a great work ethic and winning mentality," Cal Poly head coach Faith Mimnaugh said.
Combined in her time at Ole Miss, Dumitrescu played in nine games, scoring 36 points and gathering 51 rebounds in her 170 minutes. As a true freshman, she averaged 4.5 points along with 7.3 rebounds in 23.8 minutes per game.
"Her ability to score along with her physical and mental toughness automatically make us a better team," Mimnaugh added.
She was also a back-to-back SEC Academic Honor Roll student majoring in Multi-Disciplinary Studies.
Dumitrescu prepped at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., where she was rated as the No. 49 overall recruit by Prospect Nation and as the No. 23 recruit at her position by ESPN. She was selected for Team MVP accolades in 2018-19. Dumitrescu also played for Romania's U-18 FIBA team in 2017 and the U-16 National Team in 2015.
