No. 5 Mustangs Win Both Matches Saturday to Extend Win Streak to 10 Straight

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly beach volleyball team won both of its matches Saturday, including beating No. 10 Hawai'i to cap off a 5-0 weekend event at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex.
The No. 5 Mustangs (13-3) took down CSUN 5-0 before beating the No. 10 Rainbow Wahine 3-2 to extend their win streak to 10 straight matches.
Against the Matadors, Cal Poly's No. 1 pairing of redshirt senior Emily Sonny and redshirt junior Macy Gordon quickly took care of business, beating Lexi McLeod and Seyvion Waggoner 21-10, 21-12.
The No. 2 duo of redshirt sophomore Jayelin Lombard and grad transfer Amy Ozee then followed shortly thereafter with a 21-16, 21-7 victory over Darbi Honeycutt and Mikaela Maughan. Lombard and Ozee are now 10-5 together this season.
At the No. 3 spot, freshman Sam Strah and Eleonore Johansen clinched the victory for Cal Poly after a 21-16, 21-9. They now sport a record of 7-3 together this year.
The No. 4 pairing of redshirt sophomore Erika Foreman and redshirt freshman Laurie McGrath picked up their first ever win together, battling to beat Emily Sparks and True McCullough 21-19, 26-24.
The 5-0 victory was then completed by the No. 5 duo of redshirt sophomores Kalee Graff and Delaney Peranich. They beat Victoria Rogers and Anna Sweeting 22-20, 21-16 to earn their second win together of the season.
The win is Cal Poly's sixth by a score of 5-0 this year.

A few hours later, the Mustangs returned to Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex to take on 10th ranked Hawai'i.
Once again, the No. 1 pairing of Gordon and Sonny got Cal Poly on the board first with a 21-14, 21-19 win over Amber Igiede and Brooke Van Sickle. Gordon and Sonny are now a team-best 12-3 together this season, all from the No. 1 spot in the lineup and have won their last nine matches.
The Mustangs' No. 5 duo of redshirt sophomore Vanessa Roscoe and redshirt freshman Josie Ulrich then put Cal Poly ahead 2-0 after a 21-17, 21-19 victory over Sofia Russo and Anna Maidment. They are now 8-4 together this season and have won six in a row.
The match was clinched a short time later by the No. 3 pair of redshirt juniors Tia Miric and Mariah Whalen 21-11, 21-18 over Kaylee Glagau and Ilihia Huddleston. Miric and Whalen are now 5-2 together this year and are winners of their last three matches.
Cal Poly has now beaten Hawai'i four of the last five times the two teams have met. They will meet again later this season when the Mustangs travel to Honolulu for three dual matches against the Rainbow Wahine.
Next up for Cal Poly is a trip up to Palo Alto next weekend for a pair of matches Saturday, April 3 against Stanford and Cal at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
