TEMPE, Ariz. -- Legend Lamer and Bernie Truax earned victories, but Arizona State won the remaining eight matches for a 34-6 Pac-12 Conference dual wrestling meet win over Cal Poly on Thursday inside Desert Financial Arena.
Lamer was a 5-4 winner over Cory Crooks at 149 pounds to improve to 9-0 on the year.
Ranked No. 18 by Trackwrestling.com this week, Lamer earned the riding time point at the end of regulation to break the 4-4 deadlock. Crooks had tied the match with a takedown late in the second period.
Truax improved to 7-1 on the season with a 4-2 overtime win over Trey Munoz at 174.
Truax, who scored an escape in the second period and rode out Munoz in the third period for the riding time point, likely will be ranked higher than his current No. 22 standing after scoring a takedown with 20 seconds remaining in the sudden victory period.
Arizona State won one bout via a fall, one by technical fall and two by major decision en route to the victory. Cal Poly also forfeited the heavyweight bout.
In extra countable matches, Logan Gioffre won two matches by decision at 149 pounds while 141-pounder Wyatt Cornelison went 1-1 and Max Anderson earned a major decision at 157.
Cal Poly also was scheduled to wrestle CSU Bakersfield on Thursday in Tempe, Ariz., but the Roadrunners are on pause due to COVID-19 issues.
Coach Jon Sioredas' Mustangs, 2-3 in dual meets this season, will spend the next two weeks preparing for the Pac-12 Championships, slated for Feb. 28 at Oregon State in Corvallis, Oregon.
