WEEKLY RELEASE
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Returning seven letterwinners from last year, the Cal Poly men's basketball program opens the 2021-22 regular season, a three-game home stand and its 12-game home schedule inside Mott Athletics Center when hosting NAIA Westcliff University on Tuesday, Nov. 9. Tip time is 7 p.m. for Cal Poly, which opens its season at home for just the third time in the past nine years. Also brining back 2021 All-Big West selection and junior forward Alimamy Koroma to its 16-player lineup, Cal Poly welcomed four Division I transfers during the offseason. Based in Irvine, Westcliff (0-1) – members of the California Pacific Conference – opened its regular season schedule with an 87-55 setback at fellow NAIA program Westmont (Nov. 6).

CAL POLY VERSUS WESTCLIFF UNIVERSITY AND NON-DIVISION I OPPOSITION: The Mustangs have never previously faced Westcliff. Since transitioning to the Division I level prior to the 1994-95 season, Cal Poly is 43-1 against non-Division I programs.
CRAM SESSION: With graduate guard Jacob Davison – an offseason transfer from Eastern Washington – leading a quartet of double-digit scorers with 20 points, Cal Poly completed preparations for the regular season with an 87-70 exhibition victory against Division II Cal State Los Angeles (Nov. 3). Sophomore forward Kyle Colvin finished with 17 points on 6-for-9 shooting for Cal Poly. Junior guard Trevon Taylor, an offseason transfer from James Madison, added 16 points and a team high six rebounds while sophomore guard Brantly Stevenson chipped in 10 points.
LOOKING AHEAD: Cal Poly closes its initial week of action and a season-opening, three-game homestand when welcoming North Dakota State on Friday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. and Sacramento State on Monday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. Both matchups were delayed one season by the COVID pandemic. Friday's matchup marks just Cal Poly's second meeting with North Dakota State after dropping a 74-67 road decision to the Bison on Nov. 11, 2019. Sacramento State, which topped Cal Poly in the last meeting between the two sides, 57-56 (Dec. 18, 2019), makes its first visit to Mott Athletics Center since Nov. 30, 2011.
