
Cal Poly Track & Field/Cross Country Announce Incoming Recruiting Class

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Set to welcome almost 30 student-athletes from the graduating class of 2020, Cal Poly has finalized its incoming recruiting class, announcing the Mustangs' National Letter of Intent signees and transfer additions to the program.
"I'm excited by this group of student-athletes," Cal Poly Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Mark Conover said. "They are an extremely talented, motivated and passionate group, as evidenced by the strong training and individual event trials which they pursued during their cancelled (spring) seasons."
"They are dedicated more than ever to the pursuit of excellence academically and athletically while honoring the Mustang Way," Conover added.
Altogether, the recruiting class — spanning 14 different majors across campus — is detailed below including their top times and marks:

Pleasanton, CA — General Engineering
Capped his senior cross country season for the Dons with a 5k performance of 15:34.0 at the CIF State Championships, good for 28th place at Woodward Park in Fresno … had finished 22nd at the ASICS Clovis XC Invite in October 2019, with another 5k time of 16:10.3 … on a 3-mile course, clocked an effort of 15:12.3 to take sixth place at the 2019 EBAL Finals held in Hayward, prior to finishing third at the North Coast Section Championships, in 15:17.6 … named to the 66th All-NorCal Team as an honorable mention after earning second-team All-NCS accolades … in track season, took sixth place in the 3,200 meters at the 2018 Sacramento Meet of Champions with a PR of 9:28.75 at American River College … ranked by DyeStatCal as the No. 7 freshman in California in 2016; just prior to the cancellation of the rest of the season, in 2020 posted his 1,600m PR — 4:25.09 — at the Gabor Invitational.

In the spring of 2019, established a new outdoor best for the pole vault, clearing 12 feet, 6 inches at the WIAA State Championships, good for seventh place in Tacoma … in addition to vaulting for the Raiders, also jumped for Northwest Pole Vault Club, and had a height of 12' 6.25" (or 3.82m) at the 2019 New Balance Nationals in Greensboro, taking fourth place.

Last fall as a sophomore for the Sooners, posted a 6k effort of 22:14.8 at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships, good for 48th place at Baylor's Cottonwood Creek layout ... also took 60th at the 2019 Pre-Nats (via 22:36.3 in Terre Haute) and 123rd at the Midwest Regional Championships (in 22:54.3) at OSU ... in track, as a senior for the Centurions, came in fourth place in the 3,200-meter prelims at the CIF San Diego Section Finals, with a time of 10:57.9; her PR, 10:57.8, earned 12th place at the Arcadia Invitational as a junior ... also in 2017 for UCHS, ran the 800m in 2:16.8 to win the event at the Triton Invite in La Jolla.

In January 2019, was honored with the Gatorade Nevada Athlete of the Year Award for cross country … won the 2018 NIAA 3A state title in Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City, with a 5k effort of 19:01.9 … in a 3-mile format, won the Nevada Union XC Invitational her senior year, clocking a performance of 18:46.0 in Grass Valley … also won the 3.9k Bonanza Casino Twilight Classic held at Mira Loma Park outside Reno, in 15:17.0 … as a senior for the Vikings, took 18th overall at the ASICS Invite in Fresno, at 18:06.0 … in addition, ran for the Oak Hill Racing Club … in track season, her junior year, won a trio of state 3A titles at Desert Oasis High in Las Vegas: in the 800 meters (2:19.2), 1,600m (5:09.3) and 3,200m (11:32.9).

As a senior for the Panthers, came in 11th place at the CIF State Championships in the D2 cross country section, clocking a 17:57.7 in Fresno … earned a 3-mile time of 17:27.3 at the Southern Section Finals at Riverside XC Course earlier in the fall … closed her 2019 season at the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, where she ran Glendoveer Golf Course in 19:10.2 to take 84th overall … made the VC Star All-County First Team … in a time trial in May of 2020, earned a mile performance of 4:52.0 ... previously with Westlake High School, recorded a best 800-meter performance of 2:12.02 at the 2019 CIF Southern Section Masters Meet, tallying sixth place at El Camino College … posted a 3,200m PR of 11:52.2 (good for ninth) at the 2019 Don Green Invitational at Moorpark High.

In June 2019, took 17th place overall in the 1,500 meters at the New Balance Nationals held at North Carolina A&T, with a performance of 4:44.57 … in January 2020 at the New Balance meet, lowered her school record for the mile to 4:56.3 … top 800m effort, 2:16.04, tallied seventh at the Battle Road Track Club Meet in 2019 … won the 2-mile event for the Hillers at the 2020 MSTCA Northeast Invitational held in Roxbury, via 10:55.02 … had an outdoor 2-mile time of 11:11.7 at the Tai-Valley League Finals in 2018, taking second place … ranked second in the state of Mass and has run PBs of 4:56 in the mile and 10:02 for the 3k this season … in the fall of 2019, won the TVL cross country title at Medfield State Hospital Course, in 19:06.8.

Competing for the Golden State Throwers Club, qualified for the 2019 USATF Junior Championships in the hammer throw, achieving a mark of 150 feet at the Golden State All-Comers Meet … also landed a weight-throw mark of 40' 11" at the Simplot Games hosted at Idaho State in February of 2020, finishing 11th … for the Raiders, had a shot put PR of 32' 5" at the Postal Throws Meet in Turlock, as well as a discus effort of 111' 6".

In the spring of 2019, established a new outdoor best for the pole vault, clearing 12 feet, 6 inches at the WIAA State Championships, good for seventh place in Tacoma … in addition to vaulting for the Raiders, also jumped for Northwest Pole Vault Club, and had a height of 12' 6.25" (or 3.82m) at the 2019 New Balance Nationals in Greensboro, taking fourth place.

As a junior for the Cougars, won the pole vault at the Pasco Invitational in Edgar Brown Stadium, jumping 12-foot-6 for the victory … also vaulted 12' 6" at the WIAA State Finals, finishing fourth in 2019 at the 3A meet in Tacoma … also competed for Northwest PV Club.

As a senior for the Panthers of San Jose, came in third place at the CIF State Cross Country Championship, with a time of 17:36.4 at Woodward Park … earlier in the fall of 2019, won the Nike Portland XC meet, also a 5k event, in 18:36.8 at Blue Lake Park in Gresham … added a 2.93-mile performance of 16:44.3 at the SF/Lowell Invite held at Hellman Hollow in 2019, finishing second … in track season, clocked a 3,200-meter effort of 10:43.4 at the Central Coast Section Championships in Gilroy, tallying second place … other PRs included 4:59.4 for the 1,600m (winning at the Bellarmine Triangular early in her senior year) and 2:21.7 in the 800m (second at the BCP dual in February).

In the 2020 indoor season, earned a new PR for the triple jump, landing a mark of 40 feet & 0.75 inches at the Boise State Challenge … went on to finish third at the Big Sky Conference Championships in the triple, at 39' 11.5" … was also the Big Sky indoor runner-up in 2019 for the TJ, via a performance of 39' 11.25" … had a long jump PR of 18' 1" at the Washington State Indoor Meet in 2019 … prepping with the Timberwolves, won the 2016 OSAA 6A state title for the triple jump, with a mark of 38' 4" at Hayward Field in Eugene … also won the 6A-4 TRL District championship in the long jump, via 17' 10.5".

As a junior for the Dolphins, won the South Coast League title for the 200-meter dash, with a school-record performance of 24.38 seconds at Mission Viejo … also in 2019, earned a 400m PR of 56.45 seconds to finish eighth at the CIF Southern Section Division 1 Finals held at El Camino College … in the 200, went on to take fifth place at the Southern Section Championship, before eighth at the section's Masters Meet … was also third at the Orange County Championships (via 24.71) … at the Mt. SAC Relays in 2019, won the 400 meters at Murdock Stadium, clocking a time of 56.48 … was also part of a 4x400m relay squad that took third at the State Finals after a PR of 3:38.29.
