FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Having its male divers competing for the first time in over a decade, Cal Poly freshmen Tyler Wesson and Max Powell both placed in the top 30 at this week's Zone E Diving Championships in Federal Way, Wash.
To have qualified for the Zone E Diving Championships, male divers had to have had a dive with a score of 300 or better during the season for the 1-meter and platform dives, or a score of 320 or better to qualify for the 3-meter dive.
Wesson qualified for the 3-meter competition after a dive of 327.50 at the MPSF Championships. That dive was also good for second-best in school history.
At the Zone E Diving Championships, Wesson placed 21st in the 3-meter dive after a score of 274.95 on a reverse two-and-a-half somersault pike.
Powell, competing in the 1-meter dive, placed 26th in the event after a score of 244.65. He did a front two-and-a-half somersault pike.
The Zone E Diving Championships capped off a banner year for Cal Poly diving with multiple divers cracking the top five of school records.
