
Cal Poly Claims Fourth Place in MacKenzie Match Play

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — Cal Poly dropped matches to Marquette and San Francisco and settled for fourth place in the MacKenzie Match Play, which concluded a soggy two-day run Tuesday at Pasatiempo Golf Club.
Coach Scott Cartwright's Mustangs fell 3-2 to Marquette in the semifinals, which were suspended Monday and resumed Tuesday morning, then dropped a 3-2 decision to San Francisco in the match for third and fourth place.
Mustang winners against Marquette were Nick Engelhardt (5 and 4 over Matt Murlick) and Tanner Podres (3 and 2 against Matthew Bachmann).
Versus San Francisco, Engelhardt (pictured above) posted a 2 and 1 win over Soren Lind while Thomas Lehman was a 2 and 1 winner over Jalen Griffin.
Wyoming defeated Marquette 3-2 for first place while Cal State Monterey Bay bested Fresno State 4-1 for fifth place. Sacramento State claimed a 3-2 win over Menlo for seventh place on the 6,500-yard, par-70 course.
Cal Poly returns to action March 29-31 at The Goodwin hosted by Stanford on the Stanford Golf Course.
