Cal Poly Beach Volleyball Goes 0-2 in Last Matches of the Season

LOS ANGELES – The Cal Poly beach volleyball team went 0-2 in its last matches of the regular season against No. 1 USC and No. 2 UCLA in Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon.
The Mustangs started their first match against the Bruins, where they fell 4-1. Anna Gorman and Savannah Niemen fell to Jordan Anderson and Izzy Carey at the No. 4 position 21-16, 21-16, putting UCLA's first point on the board.
Dora Beilin and Brayden Gruenewald tied things up for the Mustangs after they beat Chanti Holroyd and Lily Justine at the No. 5 position 17-21, 21-16, 15-13.
Hannah Hubbard and Emily Sonny, the Mustangs' No. 1 pair, were beat by Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara 21-10, 21-17, while Adlee Van Winden and Taylor Nelson were beat by Kamila Tan and Madi Yeomans at the No. 2 position, 21-18, 21-18, clinching the match for the Bruins.
The No. 3 pair of Holland Boege and Raeann Greisen put up a close match against Torrey Van Winden and Elise Zappia, but fell 22-20, 21-18.
This is the third time this season the Mustangs have gone 4-1 against UCLA, giving them a 0-3 record against the Bruins.
Down 1-0, the Mustangs took on No. 1 USC, where they fell 5-0 to the Trojans.
Gorman and Niemen fell to Abril Bustamante and Joy Dennis 21-16, 21-14, putting USC's first point on the board.
Beilin and Brayden Gruenewald fell to Jenna Belton and Jo Kremer 21-15, 21-17, while Boege and Greisen fell to Terese Cannon and Nicolette Martin 21-12, 21-13, clinching the match for the Mustangs.
Hubbard and Sonny fell to Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes 21-16, 21-9, while Van Winden and Nelson fell to Sophie Bukovec and Allie Wheeler, making it 5-0 USC.
Cal Poly closes out their regular season play 12-21 on the season and 3-6 in conference play, while playing 18 top 15 teams.
The Mustangs will be back in the sand on April 28 through April 29 to host the Big West Beach Volleyball Tournament in Pismo Beach, Calif.
