
Cal Poly Beach Volleyball Goes 2-2 at Big West Challenge

HUNTINGTON BEACH – The Cal Poly beach volleyball team went 1-1 on the second day of the Big West Challenge in Huntington Beach, Calif., as it fell to No. 6 Long Beach State 3-2 and swept Sacramento State 5-0.
The Mustangs went 2-2 over the two days at the Big West Challenge, advancing their record to 10-10 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.
Cal Poly took on LBSU in its first match on the second day of the challenge, where the Mustangs put up a fight against the ranked team, but couldn't hold on.
The No. 1 pair of Hannah Hubbard and Emily Sonny fell to Nele Barber and Rachel Nieto21-19, 21-13.
The Mustangs No. 2 pair of Taylor Nelson and Adlee Van Winden beat Sasha Karelov and Kobi Pekich 21-15, 21-18.
At the No. 3 position, Raeann Greisen and Heather Pembroke fell to Anete Brinke and Hailey Harward 21-19, 21-17.
The No. 5 pair of Brayden Gruenewald and Taylor Grueneeald fell to Jenelle Hudson and Megan Kruidhof 21-13, 21-12.
The Mustangs took on Sacramento State in their last match of the challenge, where they turned the momentum around, sweeping the Hornets 5-0.
Sonny and Hubbard beat Maddie Cannon and Morgan Stanley 21-18, 21-12, while Van Winden and Nelson beat Brie Gathright and Lexie Skalbeck 21-14, 21-13.
Greisen and Pembroke beat Sarah Davis and Kennedy Kurtz 21-10, 21-9m while Gorman and Niemen picked up a quick win over Lana Brown and Hannah Meadows 21-7, 21-8.
Brayden and Taylor Gruenewald beat Courtney Dietrich and Brigitte Murdock 21-16, 21-11.
The Mustangs will be back on the courts on Wednesday April 5 to take on LMU and No. 3 UCLA in Los Angeles, Calif.
