
Mustang Beach Volleyball Hits the Road to Los Angeles

SAN LUIS OBIPO – The Cal Poly beach volleyball team will head south for the third time in two weeks to take on Loyola Marymount and No. 3 UCLA in Los Angeles, Calif.
Last weekend, the Mustangs participated in the Big West Challenge, where they went 2-2 on the weekend, as they beat CSUN 3-2 and Sacramento State 5-0. The squad fell to No. 5 Hawai'i 4-1 and No. 6 Long Beach State 3-2.
Cal Poly's win against Sacramento State moved them from the No. 4 spot in the conference to the No. 3 spot, putting them right behind Hawai'i and LBSU.
The Mustangs are now 10-10 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.
Cal Poly's No. 1 pair of Emily Sonny and Hannah Hubbard, the No. 2 pair of Adlee Van Winden and Taylor Nelson and the No. 4 pair of Savannah Niemen and Anna Gorman all went 3-1 at the challenge, picking up at least one win against a pair from a ranked team.
The wins advanced Sonny and Hubbard to 11-9 on the season, Van Winden and Nelson to 11-5 on the season and Niemen and Gorman to 10-6 on the season.
The Mustangs' record has the team receiving votes for the NCAA Beach Volleyball rankings.
Cal Poly will take on LMU Wednesday April 5 at noon and then be back in the sand to take on No. 3 UCLA at 3:00 p.m.
This is the second time this season the Mustang squad will take on the UCLA. In their last meeting, the Mustangs fell 4-1 to the Bruins, with Taylor and Brayden Gruenewald picking up the point against the ranked team.
The Mustangs first and last meeting with LMU was in 2016, where they fell to the Lions 4-1 in Tucson, Ariz.
