
Cal Poly Finishes 11th in The Goodwin Men's Golf Tournament at Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. – Jordan Wright carded a 67 for a top-20 finish and the Cal Poly men's golf team climbed one more spot into an 11th-place finish after the final round of play in The Goodwin hosted by Stanford on Saturday at the Stanford Golf Course.
Wright (pictured at right) jumped from 40th place into a tie for 13th place with his three-under-par round that included six birdies and three bogeys. He finished with a four-over-par 214 total on the 6,727-yard, par-70 course, joining six other golfers in the 13th-place tie.
Mustang teammate Jesse Yap, in the top 20 after the first two rounds of play, recorded a 74 for a seven-over-par 217 total and a 31st-place tie.
Cal Poly posted its best four-person team score of the tournament Saturday with an eight-over-par 288 total, finishing at 39-over-par 879, just four shots out of a top-10 finish in the 24-team field.
Stanford breezed to the team title in its own tournament, carding a final-round 273 for a three-under-par 837 total and a nine-stroke victory over Pac-12 rival USC. UNLV was another four shots back in third place.
Individual championship honors went to Rhett Rasmussen of Brigham Young with a final-round 70 and a four-under-par 206 total. He finished one shot ahead of Franklin Huang of Stanford and Harry Hall of UNLV. Huang posted a final-round 66 and Hall a 69.
In addition to Wright and Yap, Cal Poly's other scoring golfers were Cole Nygren with a final-round 75 for a 224 total and 69th-place tie; Justin De Los Santos with a 72 for a 227 aggregate and 87th-place tie; and Grady Smith with a 76 for a 229 total and 100th-place tie.
Wright finished sixth in par-5 scoring at six under par. Wright and Yap both carded an eagle in the tournament.
The Mustangs will host the Cal Poly Shootout on April 17-18 at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande.
