
Cal Poly Beach Volleyball Splits on Day Two in Malibu

MALIBU—The Cal Poly beach volleyball team split on its second day of matches in Malibu, Calif., as they swept CSU Bakersfield 5-0 and lost to No. 2 Pepperdine 5-0.
After beating Irvine Valley College and Concordia on Friday, the Mustangs started their second day of matches Saturday morning against CSUB.
The No. 4 pair of Savannah Niemen and Anna Gorman picked up the first point for the Mustangs as they beat Sarah Garrow and Ally Barber 21-13, 21-9, while the No. 2 pair of Adlee Van Winden and Taylor Nelson beat Jocelyn Rodriguez and Madison Busler 21-13, 21-13.
The Mustangs' No. 3 pair of Raeann Greisen and Heather Pembroke clinched the match for the Mustangs after they beat Emily Lopes and Mattison DeGarmo 21-13, 21-18.
Emily Sonny and Hannah Hubbard, the Mustangs No. 1 pair, beat Carol Grasso and Sara Little 21-18, 21-18.
Dora Beilin and Holland Boege finished off the match on a strong note, as they beat Fabiana Andrade and Hannah Manzanares 21-17, 28-26.
Up 3-0 on the weekend, the Mustangs took on No. 2 Pepperdine, but couldn't keep up the pace.
Greisen and Pembroke were defeated by Skylar Caputo and Heidi Dyer 21-11, 21-16, while Sonny and Hubbard were beat by Delaney Knudsen and Madalyn Roh 21-7, 21-18.
Beilin and Boege were beat by Nikki Lyons and Tiffaney Morales 24-22, 21-17, clinching the match for Pepperdine.
Van Winden and Nelson pushed Brittany Howard and Corinne Quiggle to the end in their second set, but couldn't hold on, falling 21-18, 29-27.
Niemen and Gorman were beat by Anika Wilson and Drahna Kraft 24-22, 21-17.
The Mustangs are now 8-8 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.
Cal will be back in the sand to take on call conference teams on Saturday April 1 to take on CSUN and Hawai'i, and again on April second to take on No. 6 Long Beach State and Sacramento State.
