FULLERTON, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's basketball team won its second Big West Conference road game in a row on Saturday night, topping Cal State Fullerton 69-45 in Titan Gym on ESPN3.
The Mustangs again started fast, jumping out to a 6-0 lead for the second time in three days (as they also scored on their initial three possessions in the 78-60 victory at UC Irvine on Thursday) on the way to a 14-7 lead following the first quarter.
Lynn Leaupepe produced the eighth double-double of her junior season in just 17 minutes, going 4-for-5 from the floor and finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Her twin sister Dynn Leaupepe almost had identical numbers, adding 10 points and nine rebounds.
Cal Poly spread the playing time around, as 12 players scored, no starter saw more than 25 minutes, and of eight subs, six played at least 11 minutes while establishing a 32-7 advantage in bench scoring.
A 3-pointer by redshirt freshman guard Breezi Holt gave Cal Poly its largest lead of the first half: 23-8 with 6:03 remaining until intermission.
Cal State Fullerton (4-20, 1-10) closed the deficit to 30-22 at halftime, but the Mustangs again put the pedal down to start a half, scoring eight consecutive points to begin the third quarter and take a 16-point lead. Another 8-0 run proceeded to provide Cal Poly a 46-25 lead with 3:53 left in the third.
After holding a 50-30 edge to open the fourth quarter, the Mustangs led by as many as 26 (when true freshman Jonni Smith hit a 3-pointer to make it 69-43 with 1:10 remaining).
Mustang senior forward Hannah Gilbert also had eight points, moving to No. 9 in school history in all-time scoring (now with 1,057 career points, ahead of Jessica Eggleston's 1,052 from 2003-07).
Holt went 3-of-6 from 3-point range, finishing with a season-high nine points, while sophomore forward Katie Nunnelley secured a career-high nine rebounds to go with her six points.
The Mustangs shot 9-for-9 from the free-throw line on the evening.
Cal Poly (9-14, 5-6) will return home to host Long Beach State (17-8, 8-2) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16 and then UC Irvine (3-21, 1-9) at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18.

When the Anteaters visit Mott Athletics Center, it will also be Play4Kay Day and Alumni Weekend. As part of the WBCA's nationwide Play4Kay Initiative, donations will be collected for the Kay Yow Foundation, going directly to cancer research, while $2 from every ticket will also go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Additionally, all fans are encouraged to wear pink, and pink T-shirts and wristbands will be given out to the first 250 fans.
