Martin, Castles Finish in Top 30 at Wyoming Southern Dunes Invitational

MARICOPA, Ariz. — Mitch Martin and Jimmy Castles both carded final-round 74s and finished in the top 30 at the Wyoming Southern Dunes Invitational on Sunday at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
Martin shared 10th place with three other golfers, all with even-par 216 totals on the 7,576-yard, par-72 course. Castles compiled a seven-over-par 273 total for a 29th-place tie.
As a team, Cal Poly finished seventh in the 10-team field with a four-person 291 final round and a 16-over-par 880 total.
Host Wyoming captured first place with a 10-under-par 854 total, thanks to a field-leading 277 score Sunday. Loyola Marymount, which led entering the final round, carded a 283 total and slipped to second place with an 856 aggregate, two shots behind the Cowboys.
Boise State finished third at 866, followed by Sam Houston State (867) and Western Kentucky (876).
Cal Poly's other scoring golfers were Grady Smith with a par 72 Sunday for a 224 total and 34th place, Tanner Podres with a 77 for a 227 total and 44th place, and Nathan Clark (pictured above) with a one-under-par 71 for a 228 total and 48th place.
Martin finished fourth in par-3 scoring at one over par and ninth in par-4 scoring at even par. Castles was seventh with his 12 birdies and Podres placed seventh with his 36 pars in his first tournament as a Mustang. Martin also had 36 pars.
Cal Poly plays its final tournament of the fall season Oct. 29-31 at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational on the Princeville Makai Golf Course in Princeville on the Hawai'ian island of Kauai.
