
Cal Poly Settles for Seventh Place in Oregon State Beaver Classic

CANBY, Oregon – The Cal Poly men's golf team dropped into seventh place when the second round was completed Tuesday morning and finished in the same spot following the final round of play in the Airstream Adventures Northwest Classic hosted by Oregon State on Tuesday.
At the Willamette Valley Country Club, Coach Scott Cartwright's Mustangs followed Monday's four-person 290 total with a 300 in the second round suspended by darkness and a 292 in Tuesday's final round.
The 18-over-par 882 aggregate was just one shot behind sixth-place Missouri-Kansas City.
UNLV claimed the team title with a 22-under-par 842 total, eight strokes ahead of runner-up Oregon. Saint Mary's edged East Tennessee State by one stroke, 866-867, for third place.
Top three individual finishers were from Oregon, led by winner Sulman Raza with a 10-under-par 54-hole 206 total. Nigel Lett was second at 210 and Aaron Wise shared third place with two other golfers at 211.
Cal Poly's top finishers were Cole Nygren (pictured above) with a final-round 72 for a five-over-par 221 total and 31st place; Justin De Los Santos with a 73 for a 222 total and 36th place; and Jimmy Castles with a 74 for a 223 total and 38th place.
Jesse Yap finished in 42nd place with his 224 total after a final-round 73 while Jordan Wright placed 46th with a 225 total following a round of 79.
Cal Poly will compete in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational on April 2-3 at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
