SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After conceding a 21st-minute goal to San Jose State in Alex G. Spanos Stadium, the Cal Poly women's soccer team equalized before halftime and then scored the game-winner in the 71st minute for a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon.

The Spartans went ahead when Darlene Rodriguez controlled a Mustang clearance attempt and quickly capitalized with a point-blank shot to her right.

Less than 10 minutes later, though, Cal Poly (3-2-2) leveled the score when sophomore midfielder Emily Hansen sent a ball ahead to senior forward Elise Krieghoff.

Krieghoff, who had come on in the 27th minute, rounded the SJSU goalkeeper inside the top of the penalty area before slotting home a shot into the empty net for the 47th tally of her career (upping a school record & one of the five highest totals among all active Division I players).

Then just under 20 minutes before full time, sophomore defender Gianna Rosati lofted a free kick from the right side of the pitch to just in front of the left post, where Hansen secured a close-range header by freshman Kelly Kessloff to suddenly provide an advantage.

Complete-game efforts in the back line from senior Robin Mertens, Rosati and junior Nicole Wheeler helped the goal stand as the difference the rest of the way.

Rosati also had two shots on goal (on 47' and 77'); senior Allie Bégin (41') placed an attempt on frame; and Krieghoff again tested Paige Simoneau in the 35th minute.

Alyssa Giannetti made six saves for Cal Poly, which has now won three of its past four, with its only losses coming to the top two ranked teams in the country. The senior now has 332 career saves in her 65 consecutive starts.

SJSU (2-2-2), which was coming off a 1-1 draw against Saint Mary's, played 10 backups.

The Mustangs' four-game home stand will continue against Dayton (also AYSO Night) at 7 p.m. Friday before hosting No. 16-ranked Cal for a Week of Welcome-themed match at 3 p.m. Sunday.
