
Cal Poly Finishes Tied for 15th Place in Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

PALM DESERT — After shooting a pair of rounds under 300, the Cal Poly men's golf team carded a four-person 314 in Sunday's final round of the Wyoming Cowboy Desert Intercollegiate at The Classic Club.
Coach Scott Cartwright's Mustangs finished in a three-way tie for 15th place with UC Riverside and San Francisco, all with 43-over-par 907 totals.
Texas Christian overtook Texas Tech in the final round to claim the team title in the 24-team event. The Horned Frogs carded a 283 while the Red Raiders posted a 293 and finished one stroke behind, 855-856. Denver finished third at 857.
Clement Sordet of Texas Tech posted a final-round 71 for an 11-under-par 205 total and the individual title. He finished four strokes ahead of runner-up Paul Barjon of Texas Christian. Petter Mikalsen of Denver finished third, another two strokes back.
Sophomore Justin De Los Santos (pictured at right) was Cal Poly's top finisher, placing in a tie for 10th place with a 73 on Sunday for a one-over-par 217 total.
Jimmy Castles posted a 75 for a 225 total and 50th place while Camden Price carded an 82 for a 230 total and 77th place. Rounding out Cal Poly's scoring were Mitch Martin with an 84 for a 236 total and 110th place, and Johnny Castles with an 86 for a 240 total and 119th place.
Competing as an individual, Mustang Court Lewis carded a final-round 73 for a 225 total and 50th place.
Cal Poly will compete in the Sacramento State Invitational on March 9-10 at the Valley Hi Country Club.
