
Cal Poly's Oedekerk and Bacharach Win Twice at USTA/ITA Regionals

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Cal Poly sophomore Zoe Oedekerk and senior Bryn Bacharach collected two singles victories during the three-day USTA/ITA Northwest Regionals hosted by Stanford University. The Regionals – the third leg of four fall events for the Mustang women's tennis team – also witnessed three more wins for Cal Poly, including opening-round singles victories by freshman Ilana Oleynik and junior Emily Gibbens.
Oedekerk (pictured) opened Friday's action with a straight-set triumph over Stanford's Elizabeth Yao (7-5, 6-3) while Bacharach defeated Elizabeth Stephens of Santa Clara in two sets (6-3, 6-2). During the second round on Friday afternoon, Oedekerk fell to Sophia Bott of Washington in two sets (6-4, 6-3) and Bacharach was edged by Kareena Manji of St. Mary's in straight sets (6-0, 6-2).
During consolation singles action on Saturday afternoon, Oedekerk outlasted Sacramento State's Emily McColl in a tiebreak, 7-6(2), 0-6, 1-0(5) and Bacharach delivered another tiebreak-win for the Mustangs after her ousting of San Jose State's Justine Deleval, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0(5).
Cal Poly's Gibbens beat Jiayu Mu of San Francisco in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) and Oleynik defeated Portland's Taylor Rees in two sets (6-3, 6-2).
In doubles action, Bacharach and Oleynik teamed up to down Washington State's duo of Victoria Matejevic and Holly Monahan, 8-5, on Sunday during the consolation doubles round.
Cal Poly takes the next two weeks off from fall action and returns to the court on Friday, Nov. 13 when visiting the SDSU Fall Classic hosted by San Diego State.
