
Cal Poly Sand Volleyball Falls at No. 9 Saint Mary's, 4-1

MORAGA – Junior Stacia Williams and freshman Anna Gorman (right) were victorious at the No. 5 position for the Cal Poly sand volleyball program on Friday afternoon, but the Mustangs dropped their four remaining matches to Saint Mary's in a 4-1 defeat.
Williams and Gordon rebounded from an opening set loss to top the Saint Mary's tandem of Maegan Conroy and Milena Popovic in the second set before edging the Gaels in the third frame and producing a 21-23, 21-16, 15-13 triumph.
Cal Poly, however, was swept in its remaining matches. At the No. 1 spot, junior Megan Groess and sophomore Nicole Kessler fell to Jordan Shaw and Samantha Tinsley, 21-13, 21-10. At No. 2, Cal Poly senior Jennifer Keddy and sophomore Katie Conroy dropped a 22-20, 21-10 decision to Kristina Graven and Natalie Loos.
The Mustang duo of senior Kate Walters and sophomore Hannah Schleis were bested at No. 3 by Dalas Dodd and Alexis Salmons (21-18, 21-12) while, at No. 4, Mustang freshmen Taylor Gruenewald and Shannon Fouts were on the downside of a 21-12, 21-8 decision to Rachel Gillcrist and Mileva Popovic.
Cal Poly concludes its three-match road trip when facing Sacramento State (12:30 p.m.) and California (3 p.m.) in Berkeley on Saturday, April 12.
