Cal Poly Loses Three Meets in Windy City Duals at Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. — Freshman 184-pounder Nick Fiegener won two of his three matches as the Cal Poly wrestling team competed in the Windy City Duals on Saturday at Northwestern University's Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Coach Brendan Buckley's Mustangs fell 38-12 to No. 16 Northwestern, 30-7 to Eastern Michigan and 35-6 to Princeton.
Fiegener (pictured at right) earned a 6-5 decision over Mitch Sliga in the Northwestern dual and a 15-3 major decision against Mike Kurby of Eastern Michigan before he was pinned by Brett Harner of Princeton in 2 minutes, 7 seconds.
Fiegener is now 10-8 for the season.
Mitch Woods was Cal Poly's other winner on the mat against Northwestern with a 7-4 decision over Ben Sullivan at 174 pounds. Colt Shorts won by forfeit at 157 pounds.
Travis Berridge won by tiebreaker over Eastern Michigan 165-pounder Austin Geerlings, 5-4.
Cal Poly won the first two matches against Princeton. Isaac Blackburn was a 7-6 winner over Jacob Intrator at 125 pounds while 133-pounder Victor Trujillo earned a 9-7 decision over Christian Innarella.
Cal Poly, 0-7 in dual meets this season, will break for Fall Quarter finals next week, returning to action Dec. 21 at the Reno Tournament of Champions.
