Cal Poly Finishes Ninth in Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational

PRINCEVILLE, Hawaii — Cal Poly sophomore Justin De Los Santos earned a top-20 finish with a final-round 72 Wednesday at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.
De Los Santos (pictured at right), who shot a 67 Monday and 68 Tuesday, wrapped up his tournament play with his even-par total on the 7,223-yard par-72 Makai Golf Club at Princeville, finishing with a nine-under-par 207 aggregate, tied for 13th place with Antoine Le Saux of Louisville.
Coach Scott Cartwright's Mustang golfers finished ninth in the 15-team field, carding a final-round four-person even-par 288 total for a 14-under-par 850 aggregate for 54 holes.
Georgia Tech led from wire to wire, posting a final-round 264 for a 55-under-par 809 total and a 15-stroke victory over Arizona State. Louisville was third at 826.
Cal Poly's other scores Wednesday were freshman Jimmy Castles and sophomore Mitch Martin, both with 71s, junior Camden Price with a 74 and freshman Nick Englehardt with a 79.
Price claimed 24th place with his four-under-par 212 total while Castles was 29th at 213. Martin placed 50th with a 218 aggregate and Englehardt was 72nd at 226.
Individual champion was Frederick Wedel of Pepperdine with rounds of 64, 63 and 69 for a 20-under-par 196 total, three strokes ahead of Grant Forrest of San Diego and Ollie Schniederjans of Georgia Tech, both of whom carded 68s Wednesday.
The Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational wraps up the fall season for Cal Poly, which returns to action and opens the spring portion of its 2014-15 slate Feb. 20-22 at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert.
