SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's soccer team created the vast majority of chances on Friday night, but UC Davis took advantage of its fewer opportunities, winning 2-0 in front of a crowd of 879 at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
The Mustangs got off the first four shots of the night, but in the 25th minute, Ana Marija Sola led Haley Hughes with a ball resulting in a 1-v-1 situation the junior converted for her team-leading third goal of the season.
Cal Poly continued to control possession until the break, ending the opening half with a 15-3 positive margin in overall shots, as well as a 7-0 discrepancy in corner kicks.
Then in the 60th minute, Celina Minissian sent a pass out wide to the left to Hughes, who sneaked behind the back line and raced to the middle to notch her second goal of the evening.
Cal Poly (6-8-0, 1-2-0 Big West Conference) didn't relent, though, testing the Aggies with shots on goal coming from Emily Hansen (at 71' and 73') and Elise Krieghoff (86').
In all, the Mustangs closed regulation attempting the final five shots of the match.
UC Davis (4-7-3, 1-0-2) goalkeeper Taylor Jern, who came into the game with five shutouts this fall, finished with nine saves.
The Mustangs will stay home to take on Hawai'i at noon Sunday.
