Lotito, Kastl Brothers Victorious as Cal Poly Falls to Wyoming

LARAMIE, Wyoming – Devon Lotito earned his fourth fall of the season and the Kastl brothers, Dominic and Blake, picked up victories, but the Cal Poly wrestling team fell 29-12 to Wyoming in a non-conference dual meet Friday night.
Lotito (pictured at right) scored a takedown early in the first period and eventually pinned Gunnar Woodburn in 2 minutes, 44 seconds, improving to 16-7 on the year. Lotito was ranked 19th in the nation by Intermat.
Blake Kastl, a redshirt freshman, lifted his record for the season to 18-8 with a 7-4 decision over Jake Elliott at 149 pounds. Kastl snapped a 4-4 tie with a takedown with a minute remaining in the third period and earned a final point for riding time.
Dominic Kastl, ranked No. 20 this week, earned a 6-1 decision over Brent Havlik in the 174-pound bout, scoring a takedown in both the first and second periods, an escape in the second period and riding time for the win. Kastl is now 13-3 on the year.
Lotito, a sophomore, claimed the Pac-12 title at 133 last season while Dominic Kastl, a junior, captured Pac-12 top honors at 165 pounds two years ago.
Wyoming jumped to a 23-3 lead in the first seven bouts, thanks in part to one fall, a pair of technical falls and a major decision.The Cowboys are 2-6 in dual meets this season while Cal Poly fell to 3-4.
The dual meet started at 157 pounds.
Cal Poly continues its two-match road trip Sunday with a 1 p.m. non-conference dual meet at Northern Colorado.
The Mustangs will host Oregon State for a Pac-12 dual meet outdoors next Thursday at 3 p.m. The first outdoor dual meet in Cal Poly wrestling history will be held in the plaza of the University Union and admission will be free.
