
Mustang Volleyball Swept by Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Cal Poly volleyball team was lost a non-conference road match to Santa Clara Saturday afternoon, 3-0. The Mustangs lost by set scores of 25-14, 25-14 and 25-23. With the loss the Mustangs fall to 4-5 on the season and will return to the court on Wednesday, Sept. 18 when the team travels to No. 8 Stanford.
Senior Chelsea Hardin paced the Mustangs with 11 kills on 20 swings (.500) while fellow senior Megan McConnell added six kills. True freshman Taylor Gruenewald and senior Jennifer Keddy each had five kills.
Senior Kate Walters recorded a team-high nine digs with McConnell adding eight. Junior Shannon Garrett and sophomore Maddie Kuber split the setting duties with 14 and 13 assists respectively.
Santa Clara had three players tally 10 or more kills led by Nikki Hess and Megan Anders with 12 kills each. Sabrina Clayton added 10.
Santa Clara outhit the Mustangs, .340-.157, and held Cal Poly to a .000 hitting percentage in the first set. SCU held a 4-0 advantage in aces, but Cal Poly outblocked the Broncos, 4-2. Keddy led the Mustangs with three total blocks (one solo) with Gruenewald credited with two.
