
Cal Poly Defeats Alumni 15-3 in Annual Baseball Exhibition Game

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Tim Wise (pictured at right) tripled home two runs and Michael Hoo added a two-run double as the 2013 Cal Poly baseball team defeated the Alumni 15-3 in the annual Cal Poly Baseball Alumni Game on Saturday at Baggett Stadium.
Alex Michael, Jordan Ellis, Matt Russell and Jordan Brower each had two hits as the Mustangs outhit the Alumni 17-9 in the nine-inning game.
Cal Poly snapped a 1-1 tie with five runs in the second inning and never looked back, adding two runs in the third, sixth and eighth innings to pull away.
Starter Matt Imhof pitched the first five innings and allowed three runs and seven hits. Casey Bloomquist, Taylor Chris, Michael Holback and Reed Reilly each pitched one scoreless inning in relief -- Chris and Reilly both retiring the side in order and Bloomquist and Holback each giving up one hit.
Wise, Denver Chavez and Brower each had triples while Ellis, Nick Torres and Hoo added doubles.
The Alumni squad was led offensively by Mike Miller with two singles. Brandon Roberts added a double, the lone extra-base hit for the Alumni. Also collecting singles were Bobby Crocker, Logan Schafer, Jimmy Van Ostrand, Jimmy Gardiner, Ryan Lee and Michael Young.
Kyle Anderson, Frankie Reed and Jimmy Shull each pitched two innings for the Alumni while Steven Fischback and D.J. Mauldin each worked one inning on the mound.
Cal Poly officially opens the 2013 season next weekend, playing a three-game non-conference series at the University of San Francisco. The Mustangs conclude the four-game season-opening Bay Area road trip on Feb. 18 at Santa Clara.
