
Cal Poly Baseball Alumni Game Set for Saturday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Current Major Leaguers Bud Norris and Logan Schafer are expected to compete or attend the 2013 Cal Poly Alumni Game on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Baggett Stadium.
Norris (pictured at right) pitches for the Houston Astros, who are moving from the National League's Central Division to the American League's West Division this season. He has won 28 games in four Major League seasons, compiling a 4.42 ERA with 553 strikeouts in 563.2 innings.
Schafer, an outfielder, was a September call-up the last two seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, going 1-for-3 in 2011 and 7-for-23 last year with one double, two triples and five RBI.
Also listed on the early roster for Saturday's annual preseason game are outfielders Bobby Crocker, Brandon Roberts, Jimmy Van Ostrand and Adam Melker, infielder Mike Miller and pitchers Kyle Anderson and Frankie Reed, all currently on minor league rosters.
Other former Mustangs in the minor leagues expected to play or attend the game Saturday are Kevin Castner, Scott Domingues, Andy Dorn, Bob Dorn, Rich Equinoa, Steven Fischback, Jimmy Gardiner, DJ Gentile, Gilbert Gil, Jordan Hadlock, Kevin Haughian, Doug Kopcha, Dennis LeDuc, Ryan Lee, Jeff Marston, Jim Montano, Jimmy Shull, Shannon Stephens, Grant Theophilus, Hugh Williamson and Luke Yoder.
The alumni will face a Cal Poly team which returns 23 letter winners, including seven position starters and 11 pitchers, off the 2012 squad which finished 36-20 overall and second in the Big West, one game behind champion Cal State Fullerton. The 2013 Mustangs roster also has seven newcomers and three players who were redshirts in 2012.
Cal Poly officially opens its 2013 season Feb. 15-17 with a three-game series at the University of San Francisco. Friday's game starts at 2 p.m., followed by 1 o'clock contests Saturday and Sunday.
The Mustangs' home opener is Friday, Feb. 22, against Seattle at 6 p.m. in Baggett Stadium.
