
Cal Poly Finishes Seventh in Wyoming Cowboy Desert Intercollegiate

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Justin Haley, Scott Patterson and Camden Price all carded final-round 73s as the Cal Poly men's golf team finished in seventh place in the Wyoming Cowboy Desert Intercollegiate, which concluded a three-day run Sunday at The Classic Club/Troon Course.
Coach Scott Cartwright's Mustangs carded a four-person final-round 296, equalling their first-round total, and finished with a 54-hole 29-over-par 893 aggregate on the 7,305-yard, par-72 course. Cal Poly was seventh after each of the three rounds of play.
Texas Christian led from wire to wire for the team title, scoring a 19-under-par 845 total following a final-round 280 on a windy day in which balls were being pushed off the greens.
Saint Mary's finished 25 strokes back at 870, with San Francisco and Texas Tech sharing third place with 874 totals. There were 17 schools in the 54-hole event.
Haley (pictured at right) finished in a tie for 20th place with his three-over-par 219 total while Patterson claimed a 29th-place tie with a 222 aggregate. Price finished in a tie for 36th place at 224.
Other Mustang golfers in the field included Grant Martens, who shot a final-round 79 for a 232 total and a 63rd-place tie, and Cole Nygren with a final-round 77 for a 235 total and a 75th-place tie.
Individual winner was Julien Brun of Texas Christian, who shot a final-round 67 for a 10-under-par 206 total, five strokes ahead of teammate Eli Cole (69--211). Finley Ewing IV (74-213) of Texas Tech was third.
Cal Poly returns to action March 4-5 at the Fresno State Lexus Classic on the Belmont Country Club course in Fresno.
