SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Cal Poly and San Francisco State battled to a 16-16 draw in a non-conference dual wrestling meet Sunday afternoon in The Swamp.
All 10 bouts were decided by decision, including one major on each side. Therefore, the third criteria was used to break the deadlock and Cal Poly won by total points, 61-56.
With the win, head coach Brendan Buckley's Mustangs improve to 2-0 on the year. San Francisco State fell to 1-1.
Cal Poly led 13-7 after six bouts, but San Francisco State won three consecutive matches to take a 16-13 lead before Mustang 125-pounder Britain Longmire (pictured at right) evened the team score with a 6-1 overtime win over Marc Collier, scoring a takedown and three-point near fall in the extra period.
Both wrestlers earned escapes -- Collier in the second period and Longmire in the third period -- to force overtime. Longmire is now 5-3 on the year with the win.
Cal Poly 174-pounder Dominic Kastl earned the Mustangs' major with a 12-4 decision over Johnathon Costa. Kastl scored five takedowns, one escape and riding time for the win, giving up three escapes and a penalty point. Kastl, the 2012 Pac-12 champion at 165 pounds, is now 4-0 on the season.
Cal Poly's other winners were Colton Shorts at 141 pounds, Blake Kastl at 149 and Sohrab Movahedi at 165.
Shorts was an 8-1 winner over Daniel Flores, scoring three takedowns, an escape and a penalty point, to improve to 6-2 for the season.
Blake Kastl is now 5-1 following his 3-1 overtime decision against Conrad Snell. Each wrestler earned an escape in regulation, but Kastl scored a takedown in the sudden victory period for the win.
Movahedi sports a 5-2 record after his 13-7 decision over Vincent Aboytes. Movahedi registered five takedowns, a pair of escapes and riding time.
Dominic Kastl's win at 174 gave Cal Poly its 13-7 lead, but Zacariah Jimenez, Andrew Reggi and Hildelv Manzur all won by decision to give the Gators their 16-13 advantage heading into the final bout at 125 pounds.
Cal Poly is idle until Dec. 6-7 when the Mustangs compete in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
