
Volleyball Concludes Home Season with UC Riverside, Cal State Fullerton

Cal Poly will conclude the home regular season this week hosting UC Riverside on Friday and Cal State Fullerton on Saturday both matches are scheduled for first serve at 7 pm. Prior to the match with the Titans on Saturday, Cal Poly will honor the team's seniors in a brief ceremony. After Saturday's match with Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly will return to the road and conclude the regular season with a pair of Big West Conference matches. Cal Poly will visit UC Irvine on Friday, November 29, followed by Long Beach State on Saturday. Both matches are scheduled for a 7 pm first serve. Cal Poly enters the match with UC Riverside 11-14 overall and 5-7 in conference matches after defeating UC Davis in three sets on Saturday. Senior Megan McConnell led the team with 15 kills while fellow senior Chelsea Hardin added 13 kills. Freshman Taylor Gruenewald tallied 10 kills on 21 swings as the team hit .230 for the match. Junior Shannon Garrett recorded a double-double with 44 assists and 10 digs while sophomore Nicole Kessler led the team with 14 digs. McConnell took care of her double-double when she was credited with 13 digs. The three-set match had 19 tie scores and seven lead changes as the Mustangs won by set scores of 30-28, 25-19 and 25-20.
With Hardin returning to the lineup after sitting on the sideline for two weeks (injured), she continues to lead the team in kills per set with 3.03 while hitting .269. McConnell is not far behind with 2.98 kills per set. Sophomore Hannah Schleis is third on the team with 2.61 kills per set while freshman Taylor Gruenewald is fourth with 2.40 kills per set and hits .288.
The Highlanders enter the match 1-24 overall and 0-13 in conference matches after falling to Long Beach State (3-1) and UC Irvine (3-0) this past week. UC Riverside picked up its lone win of the season against Winthrop in four sets. Ashley Cox leads the team with 3.08 kills per set with Cristina Maietta and Annishia McKoy adding 2.53 and 2.08 kills per set respectively. Alissa Apecechea hands out the assists (7.71 per set) while Maddie Hubbell leads the team in digs (3.88 per set). Cal Poly holds an 18-8 advantage over the Highlanders in the all-time series including the Mustangs 3-0 win on Oct. 26. In the match, senior Megan McConnell led the team with 14 kills while freshmen Anna Gorman tallied 11 and Taylor Grenewald 10 kills. Senior Steffi Sooter led four players who recorded double figure digs with 14. Fellow senior Kate Walters added 13.
The Titans enter the week 11-14 overall and 3-10 in conference matches after dropping matches to UC Irvine (3-2) and Long Beach State (3-1) last week. CSF's conference wins have come over UC Davis and a pair of wins over UC Riverside. Alyse Hensley leads the team with 3.09 kills per set with Bre Moreland just behind with 3.03 kills per set. Holland Crenshaw and Leah Best add 2.21 and 2.11 kills per set respectively. Julie Consani dishes out the assists for the Titans (10.96 per set) while McKenna Painton is the team leader in digs (4.59). Crenshaw also plays big at the net with 0.81 blocks per set. Cal Poly holds a 46-9 advantage in the all-time series with Cal State Fullerton, including the Mustangs four-set win on Oct. 25.
