
UC Davis Defeats Cal Poly in Four Sets

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.—Despite having three players with 10 or more kills the Cal Poly volleyball team was not able to overcome UC Davis, falling in four sets, on Saturday night at Mott Athletics Center in a Big West Conference match. Cal Poly lost by set scores of 25-22, 20-25, 25-20 and 25-20.
With the loss the Mustangs fall to 8-10 overall and 2-3 in Big West matches while UCD improves to 11-8 overall and 3-3 in conference matches. Cal Poly returns to the court on Saturday when the team will host Cal State Northridge in a conference match at 7 pm.
Sophomore Hannah Schleis led all players with 18 kills while hitting .326. Freshman Taylor Gruenewald added 13 kills on 40 swings with senior Megan McConnell recording 12 kills.
Senior Steffi Sooter led all players with 21 digs while McConnell earned a double-double with 16 digs. Sophomore Maddie Kuber had 11 digs to go with 47 assists. Gruenewald and Kuber were each credited with five assisted blocks.
Kaylin Squyres led UCD with 16 kills with Vivctoria Lee adding 10 kills. Jenny Woolway had 20 digs to lead the team.
UCD hit .232 for the match and tallied 52 kills while the Mustangs hit .216 with 58 kills. UCD held a 74-73 advantage in digs while the team each was credited with nine total blocks.
