Cal Poly Falls to CSU Bakersfield, 22-10, in Pac-12 Dual Meet

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- A fall by Dalton Kelley and a major decision by Sean Pollock lifted CSU Bakersfield to a 22-10 victory over Cal Poly in a Pac-12 dual wrestling meet Saturday night in Mott Gym.
Kelley turned a 2-0 deficit into a victory with a reversal and a pin in 2 minutes, 22 seconds over Cal Poly 141-pounder Brandan Rocha while Pollock was a 9-1 winner over Mustang 174-pounder Mitch Woods.
CSU Bakersfield, which defeated Cal Poly 27-13 in a non-conference dual Nov. 8 in Bakersfield, improved to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in Pac-12 duals with Saturday's win while Cal Poly fell to 2-5 and 0-1.
Cal Poly's only winners were freshman Devon Lotito at 133 pounds, junior Sean Dougherty at 197 pounds and freshman J.T. Goodwin at 285 pounds.
Lotito tied the dual meet at 3-3 with a 10-3 decision over Roadrunner Miguel Comparan, improving his record to 22-6 on the year. Lotito scored three takedowns, an escape, a two-point near-fall and amassed 3:23 in riding time.
Dougherty is 17-8 for the season following his 17-3 major decision over Frankie Hurtado, scoring a quartet of two-point near-falls, while Goodwin (pictured above) was a 5-2 winner over Oren Grosvirt-Dramen, securing first- and third-period takedowns plus 4:02 in riding time.
Dougherty and Goodwin both wrestled up a weight class after a double-forfeit at 184 pounds.
CSU Bakersfield snapped the 3-3 tie with five straight wins for a 22-3 advantage before Cal Poly won the final two bouts.
In a freestyle exhibition, former Mustang standout Boris Novachkov, a three-time NCAA All-American and two-time Pac-12 champion, fell to ex-Boise State star Adam Hall. Novachkov won the first match 1-0 but Hall turned it around with a pair of 2-0 wins to secure the victory.
Cal Poly wrestling, presented by Meathead Movers, closes out a five-match homestand when it hosts Air Force for a non-conference dual meet Sunday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. in Mott Gym.
