
Northeastern Defeats Volleyball in Three Sets

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Cal Poly volleyball team lost in three sets Sunday afternoon in a neutral site match against Northeastern in Santa Barbara. Set scores went 25-19, 25-13 and 25-19. With the loss Cal Poly falls to 1-4 on the season while Northeastern improves to 6-2.
The Mustangs will return to action on Sept. 7 when the team travels to Los Angeles to play Notre Dame, USC and San Diego in the USC Classic.
Junior Chelsea Hardin led the team with 10 kills coming on 19 swings (.421) with freshman Maddie Kuber added nine kills.
Junior Kate Walters tallied a double-double with 12 digs and 18 assists while Nicole Kessler led team with 14 digs.
Kelly Bacon led Northeastern with 11 kills with Jillian Briner and Nicole Bishop each adding seven.
Overall Northeastern hit .293 in the match and limited the Mustangs to a .133 hitting percentage.
In the first set, NU hit .324 in the 25-19 win while the Mustangs hit .125. In the second NU built a 10 point lead midway through match and went on to a 25-13 win. Cal Poly hit .045 while NU hit .267.
The third set was a tight battle until NU pulled away near the end of the set. NU hit .286 while Cal Poly hit .186.
