Cal Poly Men's Golf Finishes Sixth in Folino Invitational

CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. – The Cal Poly men's golf team finished sixth in the 10-team Folino Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton, which completed a three-day run Tuesday at the Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palm Resort.
Coach Scott Cartwright's Mustangs carded a four-person final-round 291 total on the 6,826-yard, par-72 Eisenhower Course, finishing with a 44-over-par 908 total for 54 holes. Long Beach State claimed the team title with an 879 total, followed by Pepperdine at 881 and Cal State Fullerton at 882.
Cal Poly's top individual finisher was Grant Martens (pictured at right), who posted a final-round 68, the best round of the day, and climbed 17 positions into a tie for ninth place with a five-over-par 221 total. Martens matched his career best with his 68, which he also carded at the Coast BMW Intercollegiate in October 2008 at Monarch Dunes Golf Course. He also posted his third career top-20 finish and second career top-10 finish.
Bryce Greeley carded a final-round 74 for a 228 total and a tie for 23rd place while Scott Patterson recorded a 75 for a 233 total, tied for 33rd place with teammate Trevor Guthrie, who had a final-round 74.
Rounding out Cal Poly's scoring was Justin Haley with a final-round 80 for a 235 total, tied for 35th place.
Competing as an individual, Alex Romo also had a final-round 80, finishing with a 237 total and tied for 40th place.
Parker Page of Pepperdine and Tyler Torano finished tied for first place with one-under-par 215 totals. Page had a final-round 72 and Torano checked in with a 71.
Cal Poly returns to action Feb. 25-26 at the Wyoming Cowboy Desert Classic at the Classic Club in Palm Desert.
