Cal Poly Freshman Devon Lotito Places Third in Las Vegas Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Cal Poly freshman Devon Lotito placed third at 133 pounds in the 2012 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Invitational on Saturday at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Lotito, who reached the semifinals before he was pinned by top-seeded Logan Stieber of Ohio State in 39 seconds Saturday morning, bounced back with a pair of wins in the wrestlebacks.
Lotito blanked Ian Nickjell of CSU Bakersfield 9-0 before edging Lrvi Wolfensperger of Northern Iowa 4-3 in the match for third and fourth place.
Lotito is 15-4 on the year.
Mustangs Kyle Chene and Atticus Disney were the only other Mustangs still alive after Friday's competition.
Chene lost his first match Saturday in the fourth round of wrestlebacks to James Green of Nebraska, 9-4.
Disney, who lost his quarterfinal-round match due to injury default Friday, also lost by injury default to Henry Chirino of Northern Colorado in the fourth round of wrestlebacks Saturday.
Cal Poly finished 21st in the team standings with 27 points. Ohio State claimed the team title with 124.5 points, followed by Missouri (123.5), Cornell (104.5), Oregon State (98.5) and Nebraska (89.5).
There were 32 teams in the two-day tournament.
Cal Poly returns to action Friday night with a 7 o'clock dual meet against Cal Baptist in Mott Gym.
