Four Cal Poly Wrestlers Place in Roadrunner Open

FRESNO, Calif. -- Brandan Rocha captured the championship at 141 pounds while three other Cal Poly wrestlers placed in the Roadrunner Open on Saturday at Selland Arena.
Rocha (pictured at right) pinned his final opponent, Jose Mendoza, in 1 minute, 32 seconds, to capture the title. To reach the final round, Rocha earned a fall, major decision and pair of decisions, including a 6-2 nod against Mustang teammate Jacob Leon in the semifinals.
Mustang 184-pounder Sean Dougherty finished second while Blake Kastl at 149 pounds and Atticus Disney at 285 pounds both placed third.
Dougherty reached the finals with a pin and a decision before dropping a 5-3 decision to James Mannier of Navy.
Kastl earned two falls and a decision before falling 4-2 to Briggs Jake in the semifinals. Kastl then won two matches by decision to take third, earning a 9-2 nod over Dalton Kelley in the wrestleback finals.
Disney pinned his first two opponents, then dropped a 2-1 tiebreaker to Dan Scherer in the semifinals. Disney earned a 12-4 major decision to reach the wrestleback finals, where he decisioned Charles Merrill of Cal Baptist 7-1 for third place.
Cal Poly wrestling, presented by Meathead Movers, will compete at the Keystone Invitational in Philadelphia next Sunday.
