
Mustangs Shut out Spartans, 2-0

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Cal Poly women's soccer team picked up its third win of the season with a 2-0 shutout of San Jose State on Friday at Spartan Stadium. With the win Cal Poly improves to 3-2 while San Jose falls to 0-4.
The Mustangs return to the field on Sunday when they travel to Moraga to take on Saint Mary's at 12 noon.
Cal Poly controlled an aggressive Spartan offense with San Jose outshooting the Mustangs 14-9.
The Mustangs made the most of their three shots in the fist period with Cici Kobinski connecting on a shot in the 35th minute. After a feed from Kacey Held Kobinski dribbled the ball into the box and lifted her shot over the head of Spartan goalie Meghan Maiwald.
In the second half the Mustangs were outshot 10-6, but Sara Lancaster connected on her third goal of the season in the 80th minute when she received the ball from Leslie Barkman from 25 yards out and dribbled into the box and hitting her shot into the top right corner of the net.
Brooke Gauvin earned her third win of the season when she recorded two saves while Maiwald took the loss with four saves.
Cal Poly placed six total shots on goal while the Spartans had only two.
