
Santiago Records Double-Double in Loss to Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, CT -- Senior Kristina Santiago recorded a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds, but it would not be enough as Sacred Heart defeated the Cal Poly women's basketball team 89-69 in Fairfield, CT on Sunday.
With the loss Cal Poly falls to 3-5 while Sacred Heart improves to 9-1.
Cal Poly will return to the court on Wednesday, Dec. 14 when the team travels to Brooklyn, NY to take on Long Island.
Santiago led the team in scoring when she hit nine of 16 from the floor and six of seven from the line. Fellow senior Ashlee Burns added 11 points when she hit three of the team's five three pointers.
Christine Martin and Jonae Ervin added nine and eight points respectively.
Gabrielle Washington led Sacred Heart with 24 points with Callan Taylor adding 21 points. Kiley Evans scored 13 points with Ericka Norman scoring 10.
Taylor also added a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Mustangs were not able to match the hot hand of Sacred Heart when they hit 59 percent of their shots from the floor and 41 percent from long range.
The Mustangs shot 38 percent from the floor and hit only five of 18 from beyond the arch.
Cal Poly was outrebounded 37-31 while committing 17 turnovers compared to SHU's 21.
Sacred Heart played the first half hitting 60 percent from the floor and 62 percent long range.
SHU used an 8-3 run capped by a three by Washington field goal to gain a seven point advantage with 6:33 left in the half and break open the game that had been tight.
Sacred Heart held a 47-34 advantage at the break.
