
Cal Poly Women Defeat UCSB in Dual Meet, Mustang Men Fall

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Senior Gloria Benefield won two events and swam a leg on a winning relay team as Cal Poly defeated UC Santa Barbara 177.5 to 117.5 in a women's dual swimming and diving meet Saturday at the Anderson Aquatic Center.
Benefield touched the wall first in the 100 backstroke (56.91) and 200 backstroke (2:01.01) and also swam the third leg on Cal Poly's first-place 200 medley relay team (1:46.62).
The Mustang men's team dropped a 167-121 verdict to the visiting Gauchos.
Cal Poly's Lacey Buck (pictured at right) was a double-winner, taking the 500 freestyle (4:58.83) and 1,000 freestyle (10:06.37), while Sami McIntyre won both diving events, scoring 250.80 points off the one-meter board and 262.35 off the three-meter board.
Mustangs earning single-event wins include Belen Enquidanos in the 200 butterfly (2:04.75), Amy Morales in the 50 freestyle (24.17), Rachel Cleak in the 100 freestyle (52.25) and Angie Haven in the 100 butterfly (57.73).
Morales and Cleak also teamed with Andrea Voigt and Jill Jones to win the final event, the 400 freestyle relay, in 3:29.56.
On the men's side, Cal Poly won just five of the 16 events.
Sophomore Konrad Antoniuk was a double-winner, taking the 500 freestyle in 4:39.87 and the 1,000 freestyle in 9:38.74.
Cal Poly's other event winners were Elliott Adams in one-meter diving (257.40), Jimmy Deiparine in the 200 breaststroke and Tony Reaper in three-meter diving (259.80).
Cal Poly will host the Mustang Invitational next Friday and Saturday at the Anderson Aquatic Center.
