VS/Cal Poly Women's Invite Results
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – The Cal Poly cross country teams competed at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational with the men's team finished second while the women's team finished fifth.
The men's team placed five scoring runners in the top 32 led by senior Daniel Gonia's second place finish. Gonia covered the 8k course in a time of 23:48. The senior was followed closely by junior David Cardona in fourth place and a time of 23:53.
Sophomore Blake Ahrold was the third Mustang to cross the line in 14th place overall and a time of 24:18. Junior Micheal Johnson was 25th with a time of 24:32.
Sophomore Sean Davidson was the final scoring Mustang in 32nd place and a time of 24:39.
Other Mustangs competing in the meet included senior Brandon Shirck in 36th and a time of 24:42 and sophomore Chris Frias in 37th and a time of 24:46.
Stanford won the men's title with 38 points followed by the Mustangs with 77. Long Beach State was third with 153 points with Boise State fourth with 171 points.
Stanford placed all five scoring runners in the top 11.
UC Riverside's Chad Hall was the individual winner with a time of 23:48.
On the women's side senior Leanne Fogg placed fifth with a time of 17:18.0 on the 5k course. Freshman Meghan Breadmore was just off Foggs shoulder with a time of 17:18.4 in sixth place.
Freshman Aeron Cadieux was the third Mustang to cross the line with a time of 17:53 in 32nd place. Senior Cortney Kostrikin finished 39th with a time of 18:01 while freshman Ashley Bergstrom was the final scoring Mustang in 51st place and a time of 18:13.
Other Mustangs competing in the meet included freshman Hanna Edwards in 56th and a time of 18:16 with freshman Tansey Lystad in 63rd and a time of 18:20.
The meet was won by Long Beach State with 94 points, followed by Portland with 100 points.
Idaho State was third with 116 points followed by Idaho in fourth with 126. Cal Poly was sixth with 133 points.
Idaho's Hannah Kiser was the individual winner with a time of 16:55.
At the VSAthletics/Cal Poly Invitational Cal Poly freshman Jeff Bickert won the men's 8k invite with a time of 27:10. Freshman Carlos Martinez was second with a time of 27:26 while Freshman Tyler Huntley finished third with a time of 27:44.
On the women's side of the invitational, Tania Fishcher of See Jane Run, won the race and covered the 5k course in a time of 18:32. Former Mustang standout Bridie McCarey was second with a time of 18:48. Freshman Sara Van Dyke was the top Mustang finisher in third with a time of 18:53.
A number of former Mustang runner joined McCarey in the race that included Aeron Arlin Genet in seventh with a time of 19:31, Jennifer Lacovara Frere (9th, 20:39), Jennifer Ahlquist Rubio (10th, 21:42) and Robin Schmidt (11th, 23:49)
The meet was a non team scoring event.
