Men's Cross Country Wins 11th BWC Championship

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Cal Poly men's cross country team ran away with the 2011 Big West Men's Cross Country Championship placing seven runners in the top 14 spots for 36 points en route to its 11th team title in the past 14 seasons.
Senior Daniel Gonia led the Mustangs with his second place finish when he covered the 8k UC Riverside Ag/Ops Course in a time of 23:44. Junior transfer David Cardona finished fourth with a time of 23:58.
The Mustangs pack running took over as the next five Mustangs crossed the line 9th through 14th.
Senior Ryan Cosens finished ninth with a time of 24:16.2 with senior Brandon Shirch coming home 10th with a time of 24:16.9. Junior Michael Johnson was 11th with a time of 24:18.
Sophomore Sean Davidson finished 13th in a time of 24:19 and sophomore Blake Ahrold was 14th in a time of 24:24.
Other Mustangs competing in the championship were sophomore Chris Frias in 19th with a time of 24:32 and Mitchell Moriarty in 21st with a time of 24:41.
Chad Hall of UC Riverside was the individual winner with a time of 23:41.
The Mustangs outdistanced second place UC Santa Barbara by 32 points (68) and Long Beach State with 69 points.
On the women's side Cal Poly placed fourth with 88 points. UC Davis won the championship with 47 points followed by Long Beach State with 61 points and Santa Barbara with 62 points.
Senior Leanne Fogg led the Mustangs with a solid third place finish covering the 6k course in 20:41 followed by freshman Meghan Breadmore in fourth with a time 20:42.
Senior Courtney Kostrikin finished 20th with a time of 21:21 while junior Noelle Garcia came home 29th with a time of 21:32.
Freshman Aaren Cadieux was 32nd in a time of 21:42 while freshman Hanna Edwards was 34th with a time of 21:51.
Freshman Tansey Lystad was the last scoring Mustang in 35th with a time of 21:54.
Other Mustang competing in the championship included sophomore Heather Wilson in 42nd and a time of 22:07 and Ashley Bergstrom in 43rd and a time of 22:09.
Long Beach State's Rosa Del Toro won the individual championship with a time of 20:27.
