
Mustangs Rally Past CS Fullerton, 75-72

FULLERTON, Calif., -- Cal Poly scored 43 second half points to erase a 43-32 half time deficit in defeating the Titans of Cal State Fullerton 75-72 in a Big West Conference women's basketball game on Thursday in Fullerton, Calif. With the win Cal Poly improves to 8-7 and 4-0 in Big West play for only the second time in school history while CSF falls to 5-12 and 1-4. The 4-0 start ties the 07-08 squad that also opened the conference season 4-0.
Abby Bloetscher came off the bench to score a career-high 29 points when she hit 10 of 15 shots from the floor and nine of 10 from the line. She made it a double-double when she grabbed 11 rebounds. Rachel Clancy scored 16 points when she hit six of 14 shots from the floor while Tamara Wells scored 10 points when she hit both her field goals and all six of her from the line.
Cal Poly shot 45.2 percent from the floor while CSF hit 48.3 percent, but the difference in the game was when the Mustangs hit 17 of 20 from the line compared to eight of 10 for the Titans.
Megan Richardson led all scorers with 33 points for the Titans when she hit 14 of 24 shots from the floor.
Cal Poly outrebounded CSF 36-32 while committing four less turnovers, 17-13.
The first half was a back-and-fourth battle until Cal State Fullerton broke a 24-23 game with a 10-9 run to close the half with a 43-32 lead.
The Mustangs used a 24-13 run at 7:24 caped by jumper by Bloetcher.
Cal Poly took its first lead of the game at 5:44 (60-58) when Clancy hit a jumper from the right side.
Cal Poly would hold on for the 75-72 win.
The Mustangs return to the court on Saturday when they travel to UC Irvine to take on the Anteaters of UC Irvine.
