A sack master, Chris Gocong earned the 2005 Buck Buchanan Award as the best defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision.
He earned 212 career tackles (117 solo tackles), 58 for lost yardage, 42.0 sacks (No. 2 all-time in career sacks, No. 3 in FCS). His 23.5 sacks in 2005 remains an NCAA Division I-AA (FCS) record while his 17.5 sacks in 2004 is No. 12 in the NCAA FCS record book.
A two-time All-American, Gocong played in the East-West Shrine game in 2006 at The AlamoDome.
He was drafted in the third round of 2006 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles and competed in the NFL for seven years (2006-09 at Philadelphia, 2010-12 at Cleveland). In 67 career games in the NFL, Gocong recorded 314 total tackles (228 solo), 27 for lost yardage.
He is a Santa Barbara Athletic Roundtable Hall of Fame inductee and is active with Santa Barbara’s Fighting Back Mentor Program, Compassionate Care of Carpinteria and the Santa Barbara Channelkeepers.
The Carpinteria High School graduate earned his degree in biomedical engineering at Cal Poly in 2006, married his wife Amanda in 2012, is a father of two children, Layla and Gia, and currently works for Gocong Development Group in Santa Barbara as a private equity investor.
Suffering for years from post-concussion syndrome, Gocong turned to painting as a form of active meditation for healing. He is a visual artist with a passion for capturing emotion through portraiture, figurative art and abstraction with showings in New York City, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara galleries.
